I'm Chloe. I am a freshman in high school, and I live in the Chicagoland area with my mom, dad and little brother Aaron.

How did I get here? Well, I found this great opportunity by…you guessed it, reading! It all started in the summer of 2007. I was at the beauty shop (getting my hair twisted) and when it came to that dreaded time of going under the dryer (for my hair...about an hour!). Ms. G. shoved this magazine in my hand and said "here, read this while you are under the dryer". The magazine featured Common and Harry Belafonte on the cover. I was interested because I was lucky enough to meet Common at my neighbors' house in 2006. My neighbors told Common

I had done some babysitting in the neighborhood and Common replied, "Ok, Chloe, you are about that business, that's alright!" I had never looked at baby sitting as a business, but after that conversation, I was inspired….”Wow, I am a business owner?" I learned two things that day. My babysitting was a business and NEVER, I mean NEVER run out the house looking any way because you never know who you are going to meet!

Back to the beauty shop. So, I'm reading this article and I got to the part about the Common Ground Foundation. I looked them up on the internet and ask the Foundation if I could help. The Executive Director emailed me back in less than a week and said YES! Even more exciting, she asked ME what I wanted to do for the Foundation. She asked ME!

I'm like, What? They really care enough to personally email me back and ask my opinion? Because of that, I have the opportunity to interview famous artists and get their personal opinion on issues that us teens face today. Believe it or not, they have gone through the same things we go through everyday. You will also be surprised how reading helped shape their careers. I also got to have my first business meeting and they took my ideas to help develop the design of “The Corner” web site!

So, I took a chance at an opportunity and the Foundation embraced me, my dreams and made me feel like part of the family. And guess what? I'm having the time of my life!

Few Facts. I play soccer and volleyball, and I am in the school’s choir. I LOVE baking cakes with my “girls” (my grandmas) and I love to travel. My dream is to travel to Paris, France so I’m taking French classes to help me when I get there. I’m also learning how to play the acoustic guitar. I have a lot of great women in my life who have taken me and exposed me to positive things from learning about confidence, faith, grooming and most importantly shopping!! All of these initials represent them, KS - TT - YA - JB - AH - GG - RG - CJ-EH - MOM.

Join “The Corner” Book Club Today and I'll meet you back on-line later. Love Chloe
